Transcription: 3 Things to Prepare For

By Emerald Morgia

If you’re a newbie and know nothing about transcription, have not done a transcription ever, and want save time and effort about knowing the to-do list, here are 3 things you should have.

  • A good set of headphone that will enable you to hear audios well and that will cancel out background noises. You can buy from Lazada for less than a thousand pesos. You just have to find somebody who can advise you on the specs of the headphones. (Update: a good sound system will do. Using headphones got cumbersome for me)
  • Download a free transcription software. This will enable you to manipulate the audio while typing at the same time. The free software I’m using is Inqscribe. There are other free softwares on the net that you can choose from.
  • Foot pedal (optional). I don’t have one. But after going without for a long time, I think I should invest in one. I think it can cut my transcription time in half.

Are you all set? Then it’s time to know the little nitty-gritty of transcription. Promise, this will make your transcription life easier in the long run. Here’s how to use short-cuts. http://cosmictask.com/transcribing-without-foot-pedal/
